Occupied El Aaiun, 18 June 2025 (SPS) -The Collective of Sahrawi Human Rights Defenders in Western Sahara (CODESA) announced its membership in the World Organization Against Torture (OMCT), an international network comprising over 200 human rights defense organizations worldwide.

In a statement released on Tuesday, CODESA underscored that its membership in the OMCT, which was possible through the support of several organizations, will enable it to “strengthen the protection of Sahrawi human rights defenders, as well as victims, in the face of multiple dangers resulting from restrictions imposed on Sahrawi human rights movements, which are prevented from exercising their fundamental rights in Western Sahara.

This membership will also contribute to “strengthening and expanding international advocacy spaces against the violations and crimes (torture and extrajudicial executions) committed by the Moroccan occupying force against Sahrawi civilians in Western Sahara,” the CODESA added.

While expressing its gratitude to the OMCT and all organizations that favorably received its application to join this international network, CODESA reaffirmed “its unwavering commitment to the principles and standards of human rights and international justice, as well as its determination to preserve this achievement, which enables it to amplify the voice of victims and denounce the abuses committed by the Moroccan occupying force in Western Sahara before public opinion and international jurisdictions.”
