New York, 23 October 2026 (SPS) – Member of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front, its representative to the United Nations and coordinator with MINURSO, Mr. Sidi Mohamed Omar, stated on Thursday evening, in an interview with Algeria International 24, regarding the latest draft of the UN Security Council resolution on Western Sahara, that the Polisario Front, the sole and legitimate representative of the Sahrawi people, would never accept any approach or solution aimed at undermining the Sahrawi people’s inalienable and non-negotiable right to self-determination and independence.
In this regard, Sidi Mohamed Omar recalled that the very purpose of the Polisario Front is to represent the Sahrawi people and steadfastly defend their fundamental rights to freedom and independence.
The Permanent Representative stressed that the Polisario Front’s position is clear and has been reiterated on numerous occasions: “While we remain committed to peace, we will never accept any approach or solution aimed at undermining our people’s right to freedom and independence.”
Regarding the provisions contained in the preliminary draft resolution, Sidi Mohamed Omar stated that the draft seeks to undermine the Sahrawi people’s inalienable right to freedom and independence, describing these provisions as red lines that neither the Polisario Front nor the Sahrawi people could accept.
Asked what would happen if the draft were adopted, Sidi Mohamed Omar reiterated: “Our position is clear, and we have made it known. If this draft is adopted without any substantial changes to its content, we will be compelled to withdraw completely from the entire peace process.”
