New York (United Nations), 11 October 2026 (SPS) – Nicaragua has reaffirmed its historic solidarity with the Sahrawi people and the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), reiterating its support for the Sahrawi people’s inalienable rights to self-determination, freedom and independence.
Speaking before the United Nations General Assembly’s Fourth Committee, Nicaragua expressed its support for holding a self-determination referendum under United Nations supervision, stressing the need to intensify efforts to ensure that the Sahrawi people can determine their own future.
Nicaragua underscored that Western Sahara remains on the General Assembly’s decolonisation agenda and that of its Fourth Committee, stressing the need to continue addressing the issue within this framework until the decolonisation process is completed.
