Tiflet 2 (Morocco), August 27, 2026 (SPS) – Sahrawi civilian prisoner Mohamed Lamine Haddi has begun a 48-hour warning hunger strike.
The League for the Protection of Sahrawi Prisoners in Moroccan Prisons, citing the prisoner’s family, indicated that the family had received a phone call from Mohamed Lamine Haddi informing them of his decision to undertake a 48-hour warning hunger strike starting today, Thursday.
The family added that their son was taking this step in protest against the ill-treatment and deprivation of his rights by officials at Tiflet 2 local prison, particularly his right to adequate and healthy food, as well as unrestricted communication with his lawyer.
The family of Sahrawi civilian prisoner Mohamed Lamine Haddi expressed deep concern for their son’s safety and the possibility of any retaliatory measures being taken against him by the prison administration. It also called on international bodies and organizations, as well as all people of conscience, to intervene to put an end to the suffering of their imprisoned son and all his fellow Sahrawi prisoners.
It should be recalled that Sahrawi civilian prisoner Mohamed Lamine Haddi is held at Tiflet 2 local prison, east of Rabat, pursuant to a harsh and unjust 25-year prison sentence handed down following a trial that lacked the guarantees and standards of a fair trial. The proceedings took place in the Moroccan city of Salé and were documented by major international human rights organizations, including Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International.
