Boumerdes, August 16, 2026 (SPS) – The sixth day of the Summer University for Exwcutives of the Polisario Front and the Sahrawi Republic featured a lecture on the role of the media in confronting psychological warfare, delivered by journalist Mr. Hamma El Mahdi.
The lecture addressed the methods used by the enemy to target the home front through social media platforms and WhatsApp, as well as media campaigns, the spread of rumors, distortion of Sahrawi identity, and the promotion of tribal divisions.
The lecturer warned against engaging with the enemy’s pages and websites, calling for measures to prevent such engagement and to address weaknesses in dealing with enemy propaganda at both the official and popular levels. He stressed the need for the national media to adopt an offensive rather than merely defensive approach.
He also called for the establishment of specialized teams to deal with the misleading propaganda produced and disseminated by the enemy with the aim of spreading disinformation, undermining morale, and belittling achievements. The lecturer further called for involving young people in raising awareness about the situation of detainees, the plundering of natural resources, and systematic human rights violations against Sahrawis.
In another lecture, Professor Abdelhamid Knoud spoke about the August 20, 1955 attacks that took place in the Constantine region of northern Algeria and the internal and external objectives they achieved, which had a major impact and far-reaching repercussions on the course of the Algerian Revolution.
The discussion of this historic military event also provided an opportunity for the lecturer to recall the historic Battle of Gueltat Zemmour in October 1981, during which, he said, the Sahrawi army inflicted a crushing defeat on the Moroccan forces and caused them heavy losses.
He added that the operation had regional and international repercussions, contributing to the internationalization of the Sahrawi cause and increasing attention to it, while demonstrating the Sahrawi army’s ability to conduct high-quality military operations.
