Algiers, June 15, 2026 (SPS) – Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, reaffirmed his country's steadfast position regarding the Sahrawi issue as a decolonization question.

This came during his meeting with the Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Western Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, who is currently on a visit to the region.

According to a statement issued by the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting provided an opportunity to review efforts aimed at advancing the negotiation process on the Western Sahara issue in order to reach a political solution acceptable to both parties to the conflict, the Kingdom of Morocco and the Polisario Front, in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations and guaranteeing the right of the people of Western Sahara to self-determination.
