.Johannesburg (South Africa), April 30, 2026 (SPS) – The 5th ordinary session of the African Union’s Specialized Technical Committee on Infrastructure and Energy was held in Johannesburg, South Africa’s economic capital, from April 27 to 30.
A delegation representing the Sahrawi Republic took part, led by Mr. Abah El-Med Abdallah, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Sahrawi Republic to the Republic of South Africa.
This session was devoted to discussing vital issues related to the future of the energy and infrastructure sectors in Africa, in light of current global challenges.
The meeting also addressed several related topics concerning the development of African energy strategies, with a focus on diversifying energy sources, promoting investment in renewable energy, and achieving energy security to support the continent’s sustainable development goals.
The session also reviewed and adopted the report of the experts’ meeting, which included practical recommendations aimed at strengthening regional integration in the fields of infrastructure and energy, and improving coordination among member states.
At the conclusion of its work, the committee adopted the Johannesburg Declaration on Energy Infrastructure in Africa, which emphasized the need to intensify collective efforts to address energy challenges, strengthen strategic partnerships, and support major continental projects aimed at achieving sustainable development and economic integration in Africa.
This session is part of the ongoing efforts of the African Union to enhance cooperation among member states and develop effective policies that keep pace with global transformations in the fields of energy and infrastructure.
