Wilaya of Auserd (Sahrawi Republic), April 9, 2026 (SPS) – The celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of the Sahrawi Republic on Thursday featured professional and folkloric parades highlighting the institutional development of the Sahrawi state over half a century.

The event was attended by the President of the Republic, Mr. Brahim Ghali, accompanied by members of the National Secretariat, the government, and a large crowd of citizens and guests of the Sahrawi people.

The commemorative festivities included professional formations and folkloric displays representing various central and regional institutions of the Sahrawi state. These performances showcased different aspects of life experienced by the Sahrawi people throughout their ongoing struggle toward the full sovereignty of the Sahrawi Republic.

School groups and kindergarten children also took part in the parades, illustrating the role played by the Sahrawi state and the progress achieved in developing human capacity through education, despite the realities of displacement, occupation, and limited resources.

Sahrawi women were prominently present in the celebrations, participating in parades and traditional folkloric performances that expressed Sahrawi heritage and culture, which Moroccan occupation authorities seek to erase.

The parades reflected the achievements and gains made by the Sahrawi state over 50 years across various fields. The performances embodied the willpower and determination of the Sahrawi people to build and develop their state despite difficult conditions and scarce resources.
