Pretoria (South Africa), 27 March 2026 (SPS) - The President of the Republic of South Africa and Chairperson of SADC, His Excellency Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa, has reiterated the firm position of South Africa in support of Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, in a statement on the occasion of the Southern Africa Liberation Day, 23 March.

“The liberation we commemorate will remain incomplete as long as some of our fellow Africans continue to yearn for self-determination. We therefore stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, who continue to be denied the fundamental right to determine their own destiny,” said President Cyril Ramaphosa in his statement.

Southern Africa Liberation Day, marked every year on 23 March, is a significant date in the history of the region. It was established by the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to honor the sacrifices of liberation fighters and to remember the collective struggle against colonialism and apartheid, it should be recalled.
