Shaheed El Hafed, January 29, 2026 (SPS) – The Minister of Cooperation, member of the National Secretariat, Ms. Fatma El Mehdi, affirmed that the Sahrawi people will not renounce their right to self-determination and independence, whatever the cost, stressing the continuation of the struggle until the Sahrawi state completes the extension of its sovereignty over all its territory.
In press statements to Spanish media outlets, Fatma El Mehdi stressed that the Sahrawi people reject any solution to the Sahrawi issue that flagrantly contradicts international legitimacy, as is the case with the colonial plan of the Moroccan occupation, which it seeks to impose by force.
In this context, she stressed that the only viable solution is the organization of a self-determination referendum, and that the Sahrawi people alone have the right to determine the future of the territory. No one has the right to deny them this right, which is guaranteed by international charters. She added that after 50 years of colonialism, the Sahrawi people are fully aware of the price of attaining their freedom, and that their steadfastness over half a century is proof of the firmness of their commitment to the right to self-determination.
