Occupied Dakhla, 22 January 2026 (SPS) – The Moroccan occupation authorities prevented Wednesday Sahrawi human rights activist Aminatou Haidar from traveling to Madrid via Dakhla Airport, despite the fact that she had completed all the official procedures required to obtain her travel ticket and board the aircraft.
Haidar expressed her deep astonishment at this unilateral measure, stressing that it was not applied to any of the other passengers, which confirms that it constitutes a systematic targeting and discrimination based on identity and human rights activism.
This incident comes as part of a series of systematic violations faced by Sahrawi human rights activists in the occupied territories, aimed at preventing them from communicating with international forums and breaking the imposed siege on the occupied lands.
In this context, the Human Rights Coordination Mechanism in occupied Dakhla strongly condemned this racist and retaliatory behavior against activist Aminatou Haidar.
The mechanism held the Moroccan occupation authorities fully responsible for her physical and psychological safety, as well as for the safety of all Sahrawi activists, both men and women.
The Human Rights Coordination Mechanism reaffirmed that these repressive policies will not deter the Sahrawi people from continuing their legitimate struggle until they fully obtain their rights to freedom and independence.
