Occupied El-Aaiun, 30 December 2025 (SPS) – Reactions continue to condemn the ongoing repression by Moroccan occupation forces against Sahrawi activists in the occupied part of Western Sahara, following the incident involving the member of the Sahrawi Observatory for Children and Women, Maalouma Abdallah, at the airport of the occupied city of El-Aaiun.

Maalouma Abdallah was subjected on Friday to an intrusive and humiliating search at the airport of occupied El-Aaiun by Moroccan intelligence services after her return from the Sahrawi refugee camps, where she had participated in the Congress of the Sahrawi Youth Union of Saguia el-Hamra and Rio de Oro.

In this context, the Sahrawi Association of Victims of Grave Human Rights Violations committed by the Moroccan State strongly condemned in a statement what the Sahrawi activist was subjected to, describing the search as “humiliating and degrading to human dignity,” stressing that the policy of repression and intimidation “will not deter Sahrawis from continuing their struggle for freedom and independence.”

The Association affirmed that this “humiliating and provocative” search, carried out deliberately and selectively without any legal justification, constitutes a flagrant violation of human rights and cannot be separated from the political and activist background of this Sahrawi defender.

For its part, the Committee for the Protection of Sahrawi Civilians within the Collective of Sahrawi Human Rights Defenders in Western Sahara (CODESA) denounced the “humiliating and degrading” treatment against the Sahrawi activist, considering it “a restriction and a blatant violation of her fundamental rights, reflecting a systematic discriminatory and racist policy that confirms the retaliatory nature of this behavior due to her involvement in peaceful human rights and civil activities.”

The same body stressed that what happened to Maalouma Abdallah “falls within a systematic policy against Sahrawi human rights defenders aimed at intimidating, restricting, and retaliating against them, in clear violation of relevant international human rights instruments, foremost among them the Universal Declaration of Human Rights,” holding the Moroccan occupying power “fully legally responsible” for this serious violation.

Sahrawi human rights bodies, including the Sahrawi Observatory for Children and Women, had already condemned on Monday the “harassment” suffered by one of its members, Maalouma Abdallah, denouncing the continued repression of Sahrawi activists by the Moroccan occupation in “a desperate attempt by the occupation authorities to intimidate her and break her will.”
