Quito (Ecuador), 15 November 2025 (SPS) – The Central Committee of the Ecuadorian Communist Party affirmed, in a statement, that the question of Western Sahara is not a regional conflict but a struggle for national liberation against an expansionist monarchy supported by oppressive powers, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Spain’s signing of the illegal Madrid Accords.
The Ecuadorian Communist Party expressed its firm solidarity with the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, the Polisario Front, and the inalienable and unwavering right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and independence.
The Party also stressed in its statement that, 50 years after the beginning of the colonial aggression, “the only just solution is to end the Moroccan occupation of Western Sahara, fully recognize the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, and effectively implement the decolonization process of the last colony in Africa.”
The statement added that the international community has remained silent for decades in the face of human rights violations in the occupied areas of Western Sahara, the systematic repression, the plundering of Sahrawi natural resources, and the construction of the world’s longest sand-wall barrier, which separates entire families and keeps a people under occupation.
