Belmopan, September 21, 2025 – Representing the Government of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), Ambassador Mohamed Zrug is participating in the official celebrations marking the 44th anniversary of Belize’s independence, responding to the invitation extended by the Belizean Government for its traditional Diplomatic Week.

During the commemorative events, the Honorable Francis Fonseca, Belize’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, Culture, and Immigration, delivered his annual diplomatic address to representatives of invited governments and the accredited diplomatic corps, reaffirming that "Belize’s foreign policy will continue to be driven by cardinal principles of international law, including respect for sovereignty and the right to self-determination."

This message was especially appreciated by the Sahrawi ambassador, who highlighted "Belize’s consistency in its commitment to the fundamental values that govern international relations."

During the official dinner hosted by the Governor General of Belize, Her Excellency Froyla Tzalam, the Sahrawi envoy conveyed, on behalf of the President of the Sahrawi Republic and its people, the warmest congratulations on the national occasion, reiterating the firm commitment of the Sahrawi Government to continue strengthening the long-standing diplomatic and friendly relations with the Belizean State.

During his visit, the Sahrawi diplomat held several bilateral meetings with representatives from friendly governments such as Uruguay, Colombia, Venezuela, Algeria, Cuba, among others, as well as with high-ranking officials from various sectors of the Belizean administration. These meetings are part of the SADR’s ongoing efforts to consolidate its ties of cooperation and solidarity with sister nations in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Ambassador Zrug’s participation in this important diplomatic event once again reflects the Sahrawi Government’s commitment to promoting international dialogue, mutual respect, and the defense of the fundamental rights of peoples, including their inalienable right to self-determination.

The Sahrawi Republic was a pioneer in granting diplomatic recognition to the Republic of Belize, doing so on the very day of its founding, September 21, 1981. Both countries maintain diplomatic relations at the level of a non-resident ambassador of the SADR in Belmopan.
