Las Palmas (Canary Islands), July 28, 2025 (SPS) – A delegation led by the Polisario Front’s representative in the Canary Islands, Ali Salem Sid Zein, participated in the proceedings of the Sixth Congress of the New Canary Islands Party (Nueva Canarias), which concluded yesterday, Sunday, in Las Palmas.

The congress was held over two days, July 26 and 27, under the slogan "Roots, Values, and Future," witnessed the election of a new party leadership and adopted several political and organizational resolutions, including a special recommendation on the Sahrawi cause. In it, the party expressed its full support for the struggle of the Sahrawi people, reaffirming their right to self-determination and independence through a free and fair referendum under UN supervision—the only just and peaceful solution in line with international legitimacy.

The recommendation reiterated the need to implement UN resolutions and organize a self-determination referendum at the earliest possible date, demanding an end to Morocco’s occupation of Western Sahara and calling on the Spanish government to fulfill its historical obligations as the former colonial power, while condemning its unlawful support for Morocco.

It also called for the release of all Sahrawi political prisoners in Moroccan jails and condemned the grave human rights violations committed against the Sahrawi people. The recommendation rejected the plundering and exploitation of natural resources in Western Sahara, in accordance with the European Court rulings issued in October 2024.

Additionally, the recommendation stressed the importance of continuing humanitarian aid for Sahrawi refugees and strengthening the institutions of the Sahrawi Republic.

The New Canary Islands Party reaffirmed its steadfast support for the Polisario Front as the legitimate representative of the Sahrawi people.
