Midrand (South Africa), July 21, 2025 (SPS) – Mr. Hamma Salama, a member of the National Secretariat OF THE Polisario Front, President of the National Council (Parliament), affirmed that while Africa has freed itself from old colonialism, parts of the Sahrawi Republic remain under illegal occupation—a blatant violation of the objectives and principles of the African Union's Constitutive Act. This includes respect for borders inherited at independence and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of member states.

In his speech at the opening of the ordinary session of the Pan-African Parliament in Midrand, South Africa, the President of the Council emphasized that, as many African leaders have repeatedly stated, Africa will not be fully decolonized until all territories of the Sahrawi Republic are liberated. The Sahrawi Republic represents a factor of balance and stability in the region, and thus, he called on all attendees to unite efforts in continuing to support the legitimate struggle of the Sahrawi people - a struggle shared by all African nations that value justice, peace, and have suffered the ravages of colonialism, foreign occupation, and racial discrimination.

The President of the Council expressed his deep gratitude for the principled positions taken by numerous democratic forces within the African Parliament in support of the just cause of the Sahrawi people. These stances align with the objectives and principles of the African Union's Constitutive Act and uphold the values of freedom, justice, democracy, and human and peoples' rights.
