Shaheed El Hafed (Refugee Camps), 1 May 2025 (SPS) – The General Union of Workers of Saguia El Hamra and Rio de Oro (UGTSARIO) strongly condemned, on Thursday, the continued grave human rights violations by the Moroccan occupation, which persists in its daily oppression against the Sahrawi people and their legitimate rights.
In a statement marking International Workers' Day, the Union highlighted the harsh and complex reality faced by Sahrawis in the occupied territories, where "the occupation continues to violate fundamental civil rights, including economic and social rights—all of which stem from the foundational right to self-determination."
The Union further stated that the Moroccan state is "racing against time to plunder Sahrawi natural wealth and resources in collusion with foreign countries and multinational corporations, at the expense of a defenseless people suffering under policies of exclusion, marginalization, impoverishment, and deliberate deprivation." It also noted that the Moroccan occupation "intensifies its settlement policies and forcibly relocates Sahrawi professionals into occupied territories, aiming to empty Western Sahara of its human capital."
On this occasion, the Union declared: "While the world today celebrates its working class, the Sahrawi people have elevated national duty into a noble struggle—building their society, their land, and their nation’s freedom, all in pursuit of dignity under the banner of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic."
