
Shaheed El-Hafed (Refugee Camp), 5 April 2025 (SPS) – The Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Western Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, met with Sahrawi officials on Saturday as part of his visit to the Sahrawi refugee camps.
At the guesthouse in the Shaheed El-Hafed refugee camp, Mr. de Mistura held talks with a Sahrawi delegation led by Prime Minister Bouchraya Hamoudi Bayoune, accompanied by government members, including Presidential Adviser for Diplomatic Affairs Mohamed Salem Ould-Salek, and the Polisario Front’s UN Representative and MINURSO Coordinator, Mohamed Sidi Omar.
De Mistura is also scheduled to meet with representatives of Sahrawi youth and women, as well as members of the Sahrawi National Council and the Sahrawi Consultative Council, before concluding his tour with official talks at the Sahrawi Presidential Headquarters with the President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), Brahim Ghali.
The UN envoy began his tour of the Sahrawi refugee camps by visiting the "Shaheed Hocine Tamek" complex, a facility for red meat and poultry production, where officials briefed him on its operations.
De Mistura also inspected aquaculture breeding ponds, a warehouse for poultry products, meat, and eggs, a Moringa production lab, and a sheep farming project.
