Évry-sur-Seine (France), March 30, 2025 (SPS) – French MP Jean-Paul Lecoq has stressed that France’s recent stance on the Western Sahara issue constitutes "a challenge to international legitimacy" and called for increased solidarity with the Sahrawi people.
Speaking at a public rally during the official launch of the "March for Freedom" for Sahrawi prisoners, Lecoq stressed that France’s position on Western Sahara "defies international law." He pointed out that France’s recognition of Morocco’s "so-called sovereignty" over Western Sahara under Macron’s administration amounts to "a violation of international legitimacy."
The French lawmaker also criticized the alteration of Western Sahara’s map in the French National Assembly, demanding: "By what right are the facts being falsified?"
In the same context, Lecoq expressed his support for the "March for Freedom" initiative, led by activist Claude Mangin from Paris to Kenitra, Morocco, demanding the release of Sahrawi political prisoners—including her husband, Naama Asfari.
He called for stronger solidarity with the Sahrawi people, emphasizing that the region’s future lies in "respecting international law and fostering cooperation among the peoples of the Maghreb."
