Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), February 16, 2025 (SPS) - The President of the Republic and Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali, warned of the gravity of the security and political situation in the North African region, urging African leaders to take action to avoid further tension.

In his address at the 38th Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union, President Brahim Ghali pointed out that Morocco’s blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement and its consequences are capable of plunging the region into further tension.

In this context, he make clear that the Sahrawi Republic and the Polisario Front will not remain idle for long in the face of this situation, which the occupying state and its allies are attempting to entrench through practices that disregard all African and international resolutions calling for the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination.

President Brahim Ghali reminded African leaders of "the need to contribute to upholding the principle of peace and security based on respect for colonial-era borders," warning that the situation is suitable for further escalation if the Moroccan occupation does not comply with the decisions calling for the Sahrawi people’s inalienable right to freedom and self-determination.

President Brahim Ghali also reminded the gathered leaders of all the rulings issued by the African Court and the European Court of Justice, which describe the Sahrawi Republic and the Kingdom of Morocco as two separate and distinct countries. He emphasized that the actions of the Moroccan occupation and some of its partners in plundering the resources of our land are illegal and unjustifiable, and that the Sahrawi people are the only ones entitled to benefit from these resources.

He further noted that "Morocco, as an occupying power, cannot be a voice for peace or security on the continent as long as it occupies a neighboring country and a member state of the African Union, while illegally exploiting its wealth."
