Shaheed Al-Hafed (Refugee Camps), 13 January 2025 (SPS) - The representative of the Polisario Front at the United Nations, coordinator with the United Nations mission for organizing a referendum on self-determination in Western Sahara (MINURSO), Sidi Mohamed Omar, has stressed that international recognition of the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination and independence is a result of the struggle and sacrifices of the Sahrawis.

During an interview with Sahrawi television on Monday, Sidi Mohamed Omar emphasized that international recognition of the Sahrawi people's inalienable right to self-determination and independence "is not a gift from anyone, but rather a result of the struggle, sacrifices, and resistance of the Sahrawi people against colonialism and Moroccan occupation."

Regarding the achievements of the Sahrawi people over the past year, the representative of the Polisario Front at the UN highlighted "the continued establishment of the Sahrawi state as an irreversible national, regional, and international reality, and the affirmation of the international nature of the Sahrawi issue as a decolonization matter at the United Nations, as well as the European Court of Justice's ruling which strengthens and fortifies the legal framework underpinning the Sahrawi issue in its legal and international dimensions."

Sidi Mohamed Omar reaffirmed that "regardless of the challenges at the international level, the constant element in the complex equation of the conflict, amid regional and international fluctuations, is the Sahrawi people who are committed to their inalienable right to self-determination and independence, which is determined to continue and escalate its struggle on the ground, diplomatically, legally, and in terms of human rights, using all legitimate means to assert their sovereignty over the entire territory of the Sahrawi Republic."
