Shaheed Al-Hafed, January 7, 2025 (SPS) - The representative of the Polisario Front at the United Nations and coordinator with the MINURSO mission, Dr. Sidi Mohamed Omar, affirmed that the peace process in Western Sahara is completely paralyzed due to the position of the occupying Moroccan state and the stances of some influential parties in the UN Security Council.
During a lecture delivered to the members of the National Council, Dr. Sidi Mohamed Omar pointed out that the peace process is stagnant because of Morocco's refusal to move toward a solution, but also due to the positions of some parties in the Security Council, particularly France and, to some extent, the United States. Consequently, the process remains in a state of standstill.
He emphasized that the inclusion of the Sahrawi issue on the list of territories undergoing decolonization since 1963 underscores the legal and international basis of the case, recognizing the inalienable right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination. This stance was reaffirmed in the General Assembly resolution issued on December 4, which highlighted the legal framework of the issue and the responsibility of the United Nations toward the Sahrawi people.
