Palma (Balearic Islands), December 31, 2024 (SPS) – The Association of Friends of the Sahrawi People of the Balearic Islands concluded the year 2024 with a gathering in Plaza de Cort, Palma, to express their support for the Sahrawi people.
The event was attended by members of the Association, led by their president, Catalina Roselló, the POLISARIO Front delegate in the Balearic Islands, Hamudi Mohamed Embarek, and numerous supporters of the Sahrawi cause, with musical collaboration from Musicantes de Mallorca - Chamber Choir.
The gathering aimed to highlight the critical situation facing the Sahrawi people after more than 48 years of Moroccan occupation of their territory.
During the event, the constant violation of human rights in the occupied territories of Western Sahara was denounced, emphasizing arbitrary detentions, forced disappearances of Sahrawi activists and journalists, as well as the situation of Sahrawi political prisoners in Moroccan prisons.
The disappearance of over 500 Sahrawis was also recalled, including 15 young people detained on December 25, 2005, of whom no information is available.
The Association of Friends of the Sahrawi People of the Balearic Islands reiterated their strong support for the families of political prisoners and for the entire Sahrawi people, highlighting their determined struggle for freedom and independence.
