Madrid (Spain), December 18, 2024 (WAS) - The Spanish Congress officially established the joint parliamentary group Peace and Freedom for Western Sahara today, Wednesday, with the support of most political groups represented in the assembly.
The event was attended by the representative of the Polisario Front in Spain, Abdullah Al-Arabi, alongside deputies from various parliamentary formations, reflecting a broad political commitment to the Sahrawi cause.
The aim of the joint parliamentary group is to promote an active and coordinated policy that contributes to seeking an urgent, just, and lasting solution to the Western Sahara conflict. This commitment gains particular significance in the current context, marked by the historic ruling of the European Court of Justice, which annulled the agreements between the European Union and Morocco that included the occupied territories in Western Sahara, as well as the escalation of military tensions in the region following the collapse of the ceasefire in 2020 due to the Moroccan occupier's recklessness.
In a statement to Sahrawi television, the representative of the Polisario Front in Spain, Abdullah Al-Arabi, confirmed the willingness of various Spanish political forces to work together to ensure strict compliance with international law regarding the decolonization process of Western Sahara. He also emphasized the importance of enhancing initiatives that directly benefit the Sahrawi people, both in the occupied territories and in the Sahrawi refugee camps.
With this establishment, the Congress positions itself as a key player in promoting peace and justice in Western Sahara, reinforcing concrete measures that meet the humanitarian needs of the Sahrawis and contribute to resolving the conflict that affects the Maghreb region and the stability of the Mediterranean area.
