Pretoria (South Africa), December 15, 2024 (SPS) – The Sahrawi ambassador to South Africa, Mohamed Yeslem Bessat, participated in the extraordinary congress of the South African Communist Party, which took place yesterday, Saturday, at an official invitation of the party.

The Sahrawi ambassador delivered a speech at the congress, focusing on the strong and traditional relationships that connect the two organizations. He praised the party's steadfast stance in supporting the Sahrawi people, who suffer from the practices and arrogance faced by the brotherly people of South Africa. He highlighted the developments in the national cause by refuting the Moroccan narrative aimed at distorting and falsifying the historical facts of the Sahrawi-Moroccan conflict, emphasizing the close ties that linked the Moroccan occupation to the apartheid regime that South Africa suffered from and ultimately overcame. He expressed gratitude on behalf of the Sahrawi people and their leadership for these historical positions, which must lead to victory and freedom.

The South African Communist Party and the Polisario Front have deep historical ties dating back to years of joint struggle for freedom and independence against the apartheid regime and foreign occupation. The Sahrawi people recognize the party's courageous and notable positions in its ongoing defense of the values and principles of liberation from oppression, tyranny, and colonialism. These positions were reiterated by the party leadership at this extraordinary congress, with the executive committee affirming its historical and ongoing support for the inalienable right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and freedom.

The Sahrawi delegation held numerous bilateral meetings with party leaders, popular  bases, and participating elites to renew positions of support and advocacy for the just Sahrawi national cause.

Additionally, a Sahrawi delegation led by Ambassador Mohamed Yeslem Bessat participated in the proceedings of the Congress of Freedom Fighters for Economic Freedom in Soweto, which was another opportunity to renew support and advocacy for the just struggle of the Sahrawi people and to remind participants of the joint struggle between the party's organizations and the Polisario Front, especially the numerous historical demonstrations organized against the Moroccan occupation and its brutal practices against the Sahrawi people.

The opening speech of the party's proceedings was given to the representative of the Sahrawi people, who highlighted various aspects of mutual solidarity and presented the latest developments in the Sahrawi people's struggle, particularly on military, political, and legal fronts. The Sahrawi delegation engaged in many bilateral meetings that reinforced the depth and strength of fraternal relations and discussed ways to develop and enhance them.
