Geneva (Switzerland), December 4, 2024 (SPS) - The Geneva Group of Solidarity with the Sahrawi People announced the organization of an international conference in solidarity with the Sahrawi cause on December 11, at the United Nations Palace in Geneva, to commemorate the 64th anniversary of the UN's adoption of Resolution 1415 (December 1960).
In a statement to SPS, the representative of the Polisario Front in Switzerland and at the United Nations and international organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Ubbi Bushraya Bashir, indicated that the conference will highlight the Sahrawi cause as the last decolonization issue on the African continent and the ongoing responsibility of the United Nations regarding the decolonization of the 17 territories listed as non-self-governing. He emphasized that this responsibility is constant and does not expire over time.
The Sahrawi diplomat added that the Geneva Group aims, through this conference, to warn of the dangers of unilateral positions and to confirm that multilateral diplomacy, the United Nations, and adherence to international law are the only guarantees for international security and peace.
