Zaragoza (Spain), 11 November 2024 (SPS) - Speakers during an annual training session for Sahrawi diplomats in Zaragoza (northeast Spain) focused on the legal and political interpretation of the recent European Court of Justice (ECJ) decisions that thwarted attempts to undermine the Sahrawi people's right to own its natural resources.

The speakers, including lawyers and experts in international law, highlighted in an initial lecture the ECJ's recent rulings which assert that Western Sahara is a distinct territory from Morocco and have unequivocally established that the Polisario Front is the legitimate and sole representative of the Sahrawi people.

International law experts also emphasized that the ECJ's decisions represent a significant turning point in the legal battle fought by the Sahrawi people to halt the exploitation and plundering of Western Sahara's natural resources. Furthermore, these rulings strengthen the legal framework that underpins the legitimacy of the Sahrawi people's struggle and efforts to reclaim its rights as enshrined in various international treaties and resolutions.
