Algiers, 11 November 2024 (SPS) - The joint African-Russian position arising from the Ministerial Conference of the Africa-Russia Partnership Forum reinforces the international community's consensus on the necessity of allowing the people of Western Sahara to exercise their inalienable and imprescriptible right to self-determination.
The joint communiqué that concluded the Ministerial Conference of the Africa-Russia Partnership Forum, the first edition of which took place on November 9 and 10 in Sochi, Russia, highlighted the need to complete the decolonization process in Africa, emphasizing that "African countries and the Russian Federation are driven by a common will to finalize the decolonization process on the African continent, under the auspices of the United Nations and in accordance with the provisions of its Charter."
The African and Russian parties also emphasized their "responsibility in establishing a just and stable world order articulated around the principles of the United Nations, foremost among which is the right of peoples to self-determination, as enshrined in Resolution 1514 on 'The Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples.'"
This joint African and Russian position strengthens the international community's consensus on the necessity of enabling the people of Western Sahara, the last colony in Africa, to exercise their inalienable and imprescriptible right to self-determination.
Mr. Ahmed Attaf, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, praised the priorities outlined in the conclusions of this meeting, particularly those related to completing the decolonization process in Africa and rehabilitating the continent within the Security Council.
