Algerian political party confirms its continued support for Sahrawi people and their right to self-determination

Algiers, October 27, 2024 (SPS) - The Algerian National Republican Alliance Party confirmed, at the conclusion of its fifth summer university held in Algiers under the slogan, “Comprehensive Dialogue, State of Law and Guarantee of Freedoms”, the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and independence, renewing its continued support and solidarity with the Sahrawi cause.

In the closing session of its fifth summer university, the party devoted a lecture on the Sahrawi cause, moderated by member of the National Secretariat, Sahrawi Ambassador to Algeria, Abdelkader Taleb Omar, in which he addressed the latest developments in the Sahrawi cause, focusing on the recent decision of the European Court in which it categorically affirmed the right of the Sahrawi people, and that the consent of the Sahrawi people is a necessary condition for any economic relations that include the wealth of Western Sahara.

The Sahrawi ambassador added in his speech that this European judicial decision is considered an important victory for the Sahrawi people, and a setback for Moroccan diplomacy in international forums.

He also referred to the international consensus that the Sahrawi issue enjoyed in the meetings of the Fourth Committee of the United Nations, which is concerned with the issue of decolonization, explaining that the decision of the Decolonization Committee issued in its recent session, reaffirmed the legitimate right and legal framework of Western Sahara as a decolonization issue, and a strong response to Moroccan attempts aimed at undermining the legal nature of the Sahrawi issue.

Ambassador Abdelkader Taleb Omar pointed out, in his lecture before the cadres of the Algerian Republican Alliance Party, to the latest report of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, which will issue its recommendation at the end of this month, that the Secretary-General of the United Nations, highlighted in this report the obstacles placed by the Moroccan occupation regime in the way of any progress in the peace process, referring to the restrictions placed by the Makhzen regime on the work of the MINURSO mission, as well as preventing visits by human rights delegations to the occupied areas of Western Sahara.
