La Rioja (Spain), 24 October 2024 (SPS) - Mr. Mohamed Labat Mustafa, the representative of the Polisario Front in La Rioja met on Wednesday with Mr. Javier Abáñez García, the mayor of Arnedo and spokesperson for the Socialist parliamentary group in the La Rioja Parliament, to discuss the latest developments in the Sahrawi cause, particularly the ongoing human rights violations by Moroccan occupying forces.
During the meeting, which was also attended by Deputy Mayor Rosa Arce and the spokesperson for the municipal government team, as well as the advisor for internal affairs and social services and human resources, Mr. Mustafa addressed several key points related to the final ruling of the Court of Justice of the European Union declaring the invalidity of the agricultural and fisheries agreements signed between the European Union and the Kingdom of Morocco, which unlawfully include the resources of Western Sahara.
The meeting also served as an opportunity for the representative of the Polisario Front to convey the concerns of the Sahrawi authorities regarding the continuous human rights violations by Moroccan occupying forces in the occupied cities and southern Morocco. It was also an occasion for the representative to present a draft resolution for the municipal council's endorsement in support of the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination and independence, in addition to discussing topics such as municipal conferences and twinning agreements with the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.
This meeting is part of the outreach efforts being conducted by the Polisario Front's office in La Rioja with government officials, elected representatives, political party leaders, Spanish civil society figures, trade unions, as well as universities, academic institutions, and youth organizations, to keep them informed about the latest updates and developments concerning the Sahrawi cause.
It is worth mentioning that the municipality of Arnedo has a twinning agreement with the Daira of El Farsia, in the wilaya of Smara in the Sahrawi refugee camps.
