Algiers, 5 August 2024 (SPS) - The ambassador of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) to Algeria, Abdelkader Taleb Omar, underlined Monday, in Algiers, that the Sahrawi people will continue the struggle until regaining sovereignty over their occupied territories, affirming that Morocco’s attempts to impose its occupation of Western Sahara were doomed to failure, as the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination is guaranteed by the international law.
The ambassador spoke in a conference of solidarity with the Sahrawi people, organized by El Moudjahid daily and the association Machaal Echahid, in coordination with SADR’s embassy in Algiers and the National Institute for Global Strategy Studies (INESG), in the presence of national personalities, diplomats from Africa and Latin America, parliamentarians, journalists and representatives of the civil society.
In this respect, Taleb Omar reviewed the latest developments of the Sahrawi cause, notably the recent French position in favor of the alleged “autonomy plan for Western Sahara,” which, according to him “isn’t new, as France has never stopped backing this plan by all means, including military,” referring to the French Jaguar aircraft that Morocco uses to bomb the Sahrawi civilians.
The French position in favor of the Moroccan occupying State 'has no legal impact,' he emphasized, recalling that the United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, had affirmed in his latest report that the Sahrawi issue was a matter of decolonization and that its resolution should take place within the framework of the UN, which guarantees the Sahrawi people the right to self-determination.
For his part, the Director General of INESG, Abdelaziz Medjahed, revisited the struggle of the Sahrawi people for freedom, independence and their right to self-determination, in accordance with international legality.
