Tenerife (Canary Islands), July 15, 2024 (SPS) - The Association of Friends of the Sahrawi People in the Canary Islands and the Solidarity Movement on the island of Tenerife organized a demonstration in support and solidarity with the Sahrawi people and in defense of its inalienable right to self-determination and independence, on the occasion of the arrival of dozens of Sahrawi children to the Canary Islands, within the framework of the summer program Holidays in Peace.
The Spanish host families and many representatives of Canarian institutions and trade unions participated in this demonstration, and local media covered the event.
At the end, a statement was read condemning the unlawful position of the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, regarding Western Sahara, calling on him not to be an obstacle to the peaceful settlement provided for by international law, which supports the completion of the decolonization process of Western Sahara through a free and fair self-determination referendum.
It also condemned the participation of Spanish and foreign companies in the plunder of Sahrawi natural resources.
