Minister of Trade renews Sahrawi Republic's determination to effectively contribute to the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area

Zanzibar (Tanzania), June 26, 2024 (SPS) – The Sahrawi Trade Minister Mr. Ahmed Bashir Ami Amar, confirmed that the government of the Sahrawi Republic is determined to have a strong will to effectively contribute to the embodiment of African economic integration through its readiness to participate continentally in the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area.

The Sahrawi Minister stressed during official talks with the Secretary-General of the Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area, Mr. Wamkele Mene, on Tuesday, on the Tanzanian island of Zanzibar, the commitment of the Sahrawi Republic to all its continental commitments regarding the implementation of the continental strategic plan for the establishment of the continental free trade area, noting that despite the challenges of the reality beyond November 13, 2020, and the modesty of the institutional structure in keeping pace with and responding to the implementation of some continental commitments, the government of the Sahrawi Republic is determined to make fulfilling its continental commitments a top priority.

In the context of his talk about the permanent Sahrawi participation in all events related to the establishment of the Continental Free Trade Area, the Sahrawi Minister appreciated the important role played by the Secretariat of the continental institution, led by Mr. Wamkele Mene, in the capacity building process for member states.

For his part, Mr. Wamkele Mene, Secretary General of the Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area, appreciated the contribution of the Sahrawi Republic since the start of the continental negotiations to establish the agreement establishing the trade area, noting that the government of the Sahrawi Republic is committed to a permanent presence in all activities and events related to the establishment of the African Continental Free Trade Area at all levels.

He also expressed the readiness of the Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area to provide technical support to all efforts of the government of the Sahrawi Republic in order to contribute to fulfilling its obligations within the agreement establishing the African Continental Free Trade Area.
