Sahrawi Embassy in Ecuador organizes an academic seminar on the occasion of Africa Day

Quito (Ecuador), May 30, 2024 (SPS) - The Sahrawi Embassy in Ecuador, in cooperation with the University of Tifariti and the Center for Studies for Africa, the Middle East and Asia, organized an academic seminar entitled “Legacy and Challenges of the Africa and South America Summits,” on the occasion of Africa Day.

The seminar, which was held at the headquarters of the Central University of Ecuador, was attended by members of the diplomatic corps, academics, and parliamentarians, members of the Ecuadorian Friendship Association, professors and number of students.

In this context, the Sahrawi Ambassador to Ecuador, Mr. Ahmeidouha Mohamed Ahmed Zein, greeted the attendees and explained that this seminar is the first to be held in this country at the initiative of the diplomatic missions of Algeria, Bolivia, Colombia, Cuba, Egypt, Lesotho, the Union of South American Nations, and the President of the Center for Studies for Africa, the Middle East and Asia and the Sahrawi University of Tifariti.

This scientific event began with interventions by the Coordinator of the Center for Studies for Africa, the Middle East and Asia, Mr. Pablo de La Vega, the Dean of the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, Jorge Piedra Rosales, the Head of the Algerian Diplomatic Mission in Ecuador, Mr. Tazib Lunas, and the Cuban Ambassador to Ecuador, Sr. Basilio Antonio Gutiérrez, who touched on the historical and cultural ties that bind Latin America and the Caribbean, with Africa.

The participants provided an extensive analysis of the emergence and development of the summits that brought together Africa and South America since November 2006, the year in which the capital of Nigeria hosted the first meeting of the Heads of State and Government of the two continents, which decided to establish the Forum for Cooperation between South America and Africa.
