Occupied El Aaiún, March 24, 2024 (SPS) - The Association for Monitoring Resources and Protecting the Environment in Western Sahara has welcomed the conclusions presented by the Advocate General at the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) on the fishing agreements signed between the European Union and Morocco, calling on the EU and the European Commission to "commit to respecting international law with regard to Western Sahara and not to give in to the pressures and provocations of the Moroccan occupation."
The Sahrawi Association, in a statement, noted that the Advocate General at the CJEU is defending the right of the Sahrawi people, pointing out some details of "the appeal brought by the French Farmers' Confederation and referred by the French Council of State to the CJEU."
The statement also referred to the most important recommendations made by the Advocate General, which included the rejection of the appeal filed by the Council of the European Union and the European Commission against the illegality of the agreement concluded between the EU and the Kingdom of Morocco concerning agricultural and marine products coming from Western Sahara.
The Advocate General's conclusions also included the need to label these products as coming from Western Sahara because "Western Sahara and the Kingdom of Morocco are two separate and distinct territories," as stated in the statement by the Association for Monitoring Resources and Protecting the Environment in Western Sahara.
