Algiers, 10 March 2024 (SPS) - The All-African Women's Revolutionary Union (R-AWRU) has praised the "inspiring" struggle of Sahrawi women who have played a significant role in the resistance to enable the people of Western Sahara to exercise their right to self-determination and independence.

"Our party has long drawn inspiration from your resistance as your people successfully overturn the yoke of Spanish colonialism. We are inspired by the perseverance of your resistance when Morocco denied your hard-won victory by occupying Western Sahara and establishing itself as a colonizing force," emphasized the R-AWRU in a message released on Friday on the occasion of the International Women's Day (March 8th).

The R-AWRU applauded the resilience of Sahrawi women who "have faced imprisonment, torture, and forced disappearances in their struggle for freedom and self-determination."

While deploring the "deliberate" obstruction by Morocco of a process that could lead to a resolution of the Western Sahara conflict, the R-AWRU denounced "the blatant and ongoing appropriation of land and the plundering of resources belonging to the Sahrawi people by Morocco."

"Every square centimeter of Western Sahara belongs to the Sahrawi people. You have an absolute right to resist by any necessary means, and we stand in solidarity with your struggle. We stand by your side in the fight against imperialism. We stand by your side in the fight against colonialism," emphasized the Union in its message.

Led by the National Union of Sahrawi Women, the women of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) have "a history of mobilization that inspires pride, considering their full integration into the political and social life of the nation, and their involvement in governing bodies of the Sahrawi state," the Revolutionary Union further highlights.

On this day that commemorates the significant contributions of women worldwide, the R-AWRU salutes the determination of Sahrawi women to "resist oppression loudly and proudly, their ability to thrive in the difficult conditions of occupation" and reminds that the National Union of Sahrawi Women represents "a shining example of revolutionary women's resistance."

In conclusion, the R-AWRU expressed its commitment to "raise awareness about the struggle of the Sahrawi people and remind all those seeking justice to remember their plight."
