Shahid al-Hafed, February 26, 2024 (SPS) - The President of the Republic and the Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali, chaired yesterday a meeting of the Permanent Bureau of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front.

During the meeting, a presentation of field developments in military action was presented, as Sahrawi People's Liberation Army fighters are continuing their heroic combat work, causing heavy losses to the Moroccan occupation forces in lives and equipment.

The Permanent Bureau of the National Secretariat stopped at the regular progress of national programmes, in light of the commencement of implementing the government’s annual program, and the activities, events and field tours that distinguished this period, with the participation of various national bodies, and the wide public response it witnessed.

The meeting also listened to a presentation on the ongoing preparations to commemorate the forty-eighth anniversary of the proclamation of the Sahrawi state, praising the celebrations at the regional level, and the public participation, in addition to the preparation of the Sahara Marathon demonstration, which is expected to be attended this year by a huge number of foreign participants.

The Permanent Bureau listened, at the external level, to a presentation on the work of the thirty-seventh summit of the African Union, with the distinguished presence of the Sahrawi Republic, and a presentation on the successful presidential visit to the Republic of Ireland, which was an occasion to confirm the position of Ireland, which calls for enabling the Sahrawi people to exercise their right to self-determination and independence.

When addressing the situation in the occupied territories of the Sahrawi Republic and southern Morocco, the meeting expressed strong condemnation and denunciation of the Moroccan state’s systematic terrorism and the hideous scorched earth policy it practices, by confiscating lands, demolishing the houses of Sahrawis, burning their tents, destroying their livelihoods and property, and killing their livestock.

The Permanent Bureau called on the United Nations to assume its responsibility to protect defenseless civilians, release Sahrawi civilian prisoners in Moroccan prisons, and accelerate the completion of the decolonization of Western Sahara.

The Permanent Bureau of the National Secretariat, on the occasion of the forty-eighth anniversary of the proclamation of the Sahrawi state, congratulated the masses of the Sahrawi people, calling them for unity and cohesion and to continue on the path of loyalty to the era of the martyrs until the sovereignty of the state of all Sahrawis is completed.
