The Sahrawi Republic denounces Moroccan displacement campaigns against Sahrawi citizens

Addis Ababa, February 15, 2024 (SPS)- The Member of the National Secretariat and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mohamed Sidati, denounced in his intervention before the 44th ordinary session of the Executive Council of the African Union, the forced displacement and deportation campaigns launched by the Moroccan occupation authorities against Sahrawi citizens in the occupied territories of the Sahrawi Republic.

During the discussion of the report of the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights, the Sahrawi Minister said: “The Moroccan occupation continues its gross violations of human rights in the occupied areas of Western Sahara," denouncing the campaigns launched by the occupation authorities these days against a number of citizens whose lands were seized and whose property was burned.

The Sahrawi Minister called on the African Human Rights Commission to follow up on this dangerous situation, which requires close monitoring by the African Commission and all international human rights organizations and bodies.

Mr. Mohamed Sidati, touched on, in his intervention, the overall human rights situation in Western Sahara, calling on the African Commission on Human Rights to visit the region and investigate this renewed violation of the rights of Sahrawi citizens in the occupied areas of the Sahrawi Republic.

It is worth mentioning that an important Sahrawi delegation is participating in the work of the 44th session of the Executive Council of the African Union, led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Sidati, accompanied by the Ambassador in charge of Africa, Mohamed Yeslam Beisat, and the Permanent Representative of the Sahrawi Republic to the African Union, Laman Abaali, in addition to the staff of the Sahrawi Permanent Mission to the AU.
