Vitoria-Gasteiz (Basque Country), 15 January 2024 (SPS)- The Spanish parliamentary groups participating in the 27th conference held at the Basque Parliament headquarters, reaffirmed their support for the legitimate struggle of the Sahrawi people for their inalienable right to self-determination and independence.
The participants issued a statement signed after a day of intensive work, which states the firm commitment to defend the Sahrawi people's non-negotiable right to self-determination, a principle that is supported by United Nations resolutions and is fully in line with international law.
The statement strongly reaffirmed its support for the Polisario Front as the sole and legitimate representative of the Sahrawi people, and condemned the illegal occupation of Western Sahara.
The statement called for carrying out parliamentary missions to verify the ongoing human rights violations in the occupied territories and to work actively within the United Nations and the European Union, so that the MINURSO mission can expand its mandate to include monitoring and ensuring respect for human rights in Western Sahara.
