Frente POLISARIO: Morocco has obstructed the mission of UN Envoys and continues to reject nationals of certain countries

New York (UN) 16 April 2021 (SPS)- The Frente POLISARIO Representation at the United Nations underlined in a statement issued today that it is the Kingdom of Morocco that has so far blocked the appointment of the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Western Sahara in the same way in which it drove former Representatives to resign while continuing to reject any candidate from specific countries for fear of their neutrality.

SPLA conducts new attacks on Moroccan army positions

Bir Lahlou, April 14, 2021 (SPS) - The Sahrawi People's Liberation Army (SPLA) conducted news attacks on positions and retrenchments of the Moroccan army for along the Wall of Shame for the 153rd consecutive day, said Thursday the Sahrawi Defence Ministry in a communiqué.
“On Monday, the Sahrawi army units bombed Moroccan forces in the areas of El Adiat (sector of Kelta), Lekaad (sector of Mahbes), Aadhim Oum El Djeloud (sector of Ousserd) and Alfain (El Forsia),” said the source.

SADR starts procedure to get full membership at UN

Moscow, 9 April 2021 (SPS) - Head of Sahrawi diplomacy, Mohamed Salem Ould Salek, said Thursday that the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) will start the procedure to get a full membership at the UN, calling on "free states" to support the Sahrawi people in its struggle for independence.
"The fact that the request requires the approval of the Security Council and the agreement of its five permanent members puts them before their political, moral and historical responsibilities," Ould Salek told Sputnik.

Security Council called to examine reasons for failure of settlement plan in Western Sahara

MINURSO: Amnesty points out absence of mandate extended to human rights monitoring

London, 9 April 2021 (SPS) - The International Amnesty Organization pointed out on Wednesday the absence of a human rights monitoring mechanism in occupied Western Sahara, lamenting the suppression of the Sahrawi people in the occupied territories.
“In October, the United Nations renewed, until October 2021, the MINURSO mandate, without including a section relating to human rights monitoring as it is generally the case for the peacekeeping missions,” said Amnesty in its 2020’s report on the situation of human rights in the world.

Addis Ababa, 5 April 2021 (SPS) - The African Union (AU) Commissioner for Peace and Security, Adeoye Bankole, called on the African organization to "play a stronger and more active role" to bring lasting peace in Africa.
In a tweet at the end of his meeting with the representative of the Sahrawi Republic to the AU, Lamine Baali, at the headquarters of the continental organization in Addis Ababa, Adeoye Bankole clarified that they had agreed to "the need for a peaceful settlement to conflicts and regional security to silence the guns."
