Shahid Al Hafed, January 04, 2014 (SPS)- the year 2014 formed the year of promoting international solidarity with the Saharawi cause, as many international forums recognized the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and convicted Moroccan "illegal" occupation for Western Sahara.

The last call for solidarity with the Saharawi people was launched from Algeria on the occasion of the fifth international seminar on "the right of peoples to self-determination: the case of the Saharawi people", which was organized on 13 and 14 last December, during which participants confirmed "the legitimacy" of Saharawi people’s struggle and their right to "resistance".

The Participants also called on, in the final statement, the United Nations to implement its resolutions, as well as the peace plan, which calls for a "final" solution through organizing a referendum on self-determination, which is disabled by Morocco.

As in previous seminars, the seminar of Algiers marked by a wide foreign participation from Asia, Africa, America and Europe, which contributed to the largest mobilization of the international community in favor of a "fair" settlement to the last colony in Africa.

This international mobilization was expressed, throughout the year of 2014, in many statements that are in favor of recognizing the legitimacy of the Saharawi issue, the most recently was the statement of Tobias Ellwood, government Minister at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office , speaking on the behalf of British government who confirmed “that London supports the principle of Saharawi people's right to self-determination, and deals with Morocco on the basis of recognized border internationally, also calls for a "negotiated" solution devotes the fate of the Sahrawi people.

The International Group also reiterated its position, which stresses Saharawi people’s right to self-determination, during European seminar for solidarity with the Saharawi people, held in Madrid, Spain last November.

Participants also called on, during seminar of Madrid, the international community to adopt "a consistent" policy on the issue of Western Sahara to enable the Saharawi people to exercise their right to self-determination.

The seminar condemned French position, which supports Morocco, as well as Spain's ambiguous position. (SPS)
