Birlehlu (liberated territories), January 24, 2015 (SPS) - The president of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), Mohamed Abdelaziz denounced Thursday Morocco's attempts to undermine the work of the United Nations' representatives and missions in Western Sahara, warning against any attempt to swerve the decolonization process in the region from its objective.

"Morocco has no right whatsoever to put any specific conditions to the work of the UN Secretary General's Special Envoy and Special Representative or even to the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO)," said President Abdelaziz.

While reiterating the Polisario Front's readiness to continue to cooperate with the UN Secretary General and his Personal Envoy Christopher Ross for the implementation of the UN resolutions on Western Sahara, the Sahrawi president warned against "any attempt to swerve the decolonization process in the region from its objective."

In this regard, President Mohamed Abdelaziz urged the UN to assume its responsibility for the respect of the legal status of the Western Sahara as a non-governing territory, as defined in Article 73 of the UN Charter, and the right of Sahrawi people to self-determination, in accordance with the UN resolutions.

He also underlined the need to stop the exploitation of the Sahrawi natural resources by Morocco and to set up a UN mechanism to protect Sahrawi citizens against Morocco's human rights abuses.(SPS)
