Pretoria, 18 March 2023 (SPS) - South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and his Tanzanian counterpart Samia Suluhu Hassan, on a visit to Pretoria, reiterated their countries’ support to the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and the organization of a referendum in Western Sahara, occupied by Morocco.
In a joint statement published following the State visit of Tanzanian President to South Africa and the meeting of the second bi-national commission, Cyril Ramaphosa and Samia Suluhu Hassan “renewed their support to the efforts aimed at enabling the Sahrawi people to exercise their right to self-determination and to hold a referendum in accordance with the resolutions of the African Union (AU) and the United Nations (UN).”
“We are making an effort to impede any attempt aimed at thwarting the aspirations of the Sahrawi people and undermining the position they held within the African Union,” said President Rampahosa in a press conference.
