Santa Cruz de Tenerefe (Spain), 21 November 2022 (SPS) - The Vice President of the Government of the Canary Islands and Minister of Finance, Budget and European Affairs, Roman Rodriguez, reiterated the government's position on Western Sahara, calling for respect for international legality and the organization of a referendum for self-determination of the Sahrawi people.
During his participation in the Committee on European Affairs and External Action, during which he answered two questions on Western Sahara, Rodriguez reiterated the unanimous position of the institutions and society of the Canary Islands regarding the respect of international legality and the organization of a referendum on self-determination, reported the Europa Press agency.
In this regard, he denounced the holding, last September 22 and 23 in Las Palmas, of a conference on the Sahrawi issue "because it was a farce orchestrated by the Moroccan government itself to defend its position," pointing out that the government of the Canary Islands did not participated.
Spanish political parties had also protested against the holding of what was called the "International Conference for Peace and Security" in Western Sahara, considering that this meeting, described as a "farce", went against the UN resolutions and the support of the Canary Islands to the Sahrawi people.
