South Sudan resumes diplomatic relations with the Sahrawi Republic

Bir Lehlou (Saharawi Republic) 22 September 2022 (SPS)– The Republic of South Sudan has decided to resume its diplomatic relations with the Saharawi Republic, according to a statement issued by the Saharawi Ministry of Foreign Affairs last Tuesday.

This morning, on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Saharawi delegation met with the delegation of the Republic of South Sudan to embody the strong will of the two brotherly countries to resume their diplomatic relations in line with the principles and objectives of the African Union as they are two member states of the continental organization and in full harmony with their common history of struggle.
The meeting was attended by the Republic of South Sudan, Vice-President of the Republic, Mr. Hussein Abdul Baqi Akoun, Ambassador Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Mr. Akouye Bona Malwal, and Mrs. Margaret Gabriel Chang, Adviser at the Permanent Mission to the United Nations.
The Saharawi delegation was composed of Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Salem Ould Salek, the Permanent Representative of the Polisario Front to the United Nations, Ambassador Sidi Mohamed Omar, Head of the Latin America and Carribean countries Department, Mohamed Zroug, and Mr. Malainin Slama, Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
