New York (USA), 13 August 2022 (SPS) - The New York City Bar Association called on U.S. President Joe Biden to support the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and independence, in accordance with the relevant international charters and the decisions of the UN General Assembly, including Resolution 1415.
The New York Bar Association called on the U.S. president to review the decision of former President Donald Trump regarding the recognition of the alleged Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara, emphasizing the imperative of exploiting all diplomatic channels to allow the Sahrawi people to exercise their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state and to dispose of its natural resources in accordance with international law.
It also urged President Joe Biden to support the U.S. ambassador to the UN in the Security Council to expand the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) to monitor human rights and document Morocco's violations in the occupied Sahrawi territories.
