New York, 24 April 2022 (SPS) - The Polisario Front affirmed Friday that the strong stances of the members of the United Nations Security Council during the consultations on Western Sahara concerning the necessity of reaching a peaceful solution guaranteeing the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination on the basis of UN resolutions, were a “clear response” to those who seek to promote doubtful solutions based on the violation of the fundamental rules of the international law.
In a statement, the representative of the Polisario Front to the United Nations and Coordinator with MINURSO Sidi Mohamed Omar said that “the strong stances” expressed during the consultations of the Security Council on the necessity of reaching a peaceful, fair and lasting solution which enables the Sahrawi people to exercise their right to self-determination on the basis of the relevant United Nations resolutions is a “clear response to those who tried to maintain the status quo and promote doubtful solutions based on the expansionism and violation of the fundamental rules of the international law.”
The concerns expressed by some member States concerning the deterioration of the human rights situation in occupied Western Sahara `show the urgent necessity to establish a UN independent and permanent mechanism to protect the human rights in the occupied territories,” said Sidi Omar.
The Polisario Front reaffirmed that it will never accept the fait accompli that the occupation State tries to impose by force in the occupied territories, and that it will continue to use all the legitimate means to defend the rights and aspirations of the Sahrawi people to independence.
