YES reject Spain's support for the Moroccan proposal

Submitted on

Brussels (Belgium), 31, March 2022 (SPS) - The European Socialist Youth have expressed their rejection of Spain's support for the Moroccan proposal called the "autonomy plan", reiterating their strong support for the aspirations of the Saharawi people and their right to the fundamental principle of self-determination.
In a statement made public yesterday, YES expressed its "deep concern over the continuing claims of Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara, ignoring the right of the Saharawi people to make their own decision."
"Through this plan, Morocco intends to impose a solution that is unacceptable to the Saharawi people and that contradicts the objectives of UN to hold a referendum on the future of the territory, through the exercise of the Saharawi people's right to self-determination", highlights the statement, underlining "the need to respect the UN resolutions to finish the decolonization process in Western Sahara for the benefit of peace and stability in the region."
It  made "a call to EU members to respect the verdicts of the European Court of Justice, particularly its verdict of the year 2016, which clearly establishes that Morocco does not have any sovereignty over the territory of the Western Sahara., therefore, does not have the international jurisdiction that gives it the right to include the territory in economic agreements with the EU”.
