El Aaiun (Occupied Territories), 12 February 2022 (SPS) - The Sahrawi Body against Moroccan Occupation (ISACOM) had strongly condemned on Wednesday the excessive use of force by the Moroccan occupation forces against the Sahrawi demonstrators who participated in a peaceful sit-in organized last Sunday in occupied El Aaiun.
The executive bureau of the Sahrawi authority against the Moroccan occupation said in a statement, that “according to the information checked on the ground, the Moroccan occupation forces, represented by what they call the auxiliary forces with official uniforms, resorted to the worst forms of violence against the Sahrawi demonstrators.”
The demonstrators gathered on the public highway in solidarity with the human rights defender Sultana Khaya and her family, besieged by the Moroccan forces in occupied Boujdour since November 2020, chanting slogans demanding freedom and independence, said the source.
“The barbaric intervention injured Mina Abaali, Ghali Ajna and Leila El-Leili, who are members of the Sahrawi Authority against the Moroccan occupation, and caused injuries to El-Saliha Boutenkiza, journalist in a Sahrawi television channel.”
In the context of these dangerous developments, the Sahrawi authority against the Moroccan occupation has strongly condemned “the excessive use of force by the Moroccan occupation forces against the Sahrawi civilians protected by the international law,” pointing out that targeting civilians at a time when they do not pose a threat to the Moroccan forces constitutes “a serious human rights violation” that requires accountability.
