UK renews its position towards Western Sahara conflict

Submitted on

London (United Kingdom), Nov  03, 2021 (SPS) - The United Kingdom renewed its position regarding the conflict in Western Sahara, emphasizing the need for a solution within the framework of the United Nations, which guarantees the right of self-determination to Sahrawi people.
This position expressed through a written note from the Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa, James Cleverly, in response to a question from the Member of Parliament for the Conservative Party, Daniel Kawczynski, on whether UK planned to take the same illegal position expressed by the Trump Administration regarding Western Sahara.
James Cleverly reiterated that "his country remains the same, considers Western Sahara a non-self-governing territory", expressed already in its time by the British government after the statement made by former US President Donald Trump, highlighting "UK supports a just solution to the conflict, which guarantees the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination."
